Re: This Mess

Last I heard, Dana was contemplating having season-ending surgery on some joint or lower extremity (ankle?
foot?). Ellison is still recuperating from his mysterious broken foot -- I think he's due back sometime
in February. Hamer may start to play soon -- he's practicing, at least. Does anyone think that the
horrible rash of injuries is not just a coincidence? Who is responsible for strength and conditioning,
anyway? How do you allow a player making seven figures to gain 35 pounds in the offseason?

I agree that we should lose Day, Brickowski & Lister at the end of the year. I believe that Fox has the
option to terminate his contract at the end of the season and I'm not entirely certain he'll exercise it --
the only two types of free agents that seem to get signed these days are the ones that make the megabucks
and the ones that make the minimum. Fox is kind of a "tweener" and unless the Canadian teams take a flyer
on him, it's hard to see what teams can or will pay him more than he's making with the C's. Maybe it'll
come down to whether the C's draft a small forward (Mercer/Van Horn) with their second pick -- AS WE ALL
KNOW, THE CELTICS' FIRST PICK WILL BE DUNCAN. EVERYONE CLAP YOUR HANDS IF YOU BELIEVE......

As for free agents this year, who's available that serves our needs? I wouldn't commit to the big, long
term deal just yet -- let's wait another year, get Walker comfortable with DUNCAN -- YES, DUNCAN -- and the
other lottery pick WHO OF COURSE WILL BE A BLUE CHIPPER NO MATTER WHERE HE'S PICKED and then lay out the
money in '98 when some really tasty free agents come onto the market.

I have no interest in Brian Williams, his bad knees or his worse personality.
