The SI piece on point gurds shows just how stupid these "pretend
objective" stats can be. Anytime players are rated, you lose all
value: If Jordan averages 45 ppg, and the next guy is 15 ppg,
(hypothetical example) you get MJ=1, Someone=2 and a 'value' of
one unit between them. If assists are 8.9 vs 8.8, you also get the
same value between them!
SI tried to go one better, by valuing the measures differently, but it is
a terrible measure.

Did KC Jones have a bad year the year West averaged 30+ppg, but 18 against
Boston?
