NBA Preview (Philadelphia-Boston)
Philadelphia (6-14) at Boston (9-12) 7:00 pm EST
A pair of teams coming off double-digit defeats and battling
at the bottom of the Atlantic Division meet in Boston tonight
when the Celtics square off against the Philadelphia 76ers.
The Celtics are fourth in the Atlantic, falling six games behind
first-place Miami with a 95-77 loss at Detroit on Saturday.
That defeat snapped a brief two-game winning streak and
prevented Boston from earning its 10th win of the season.
The Celtics, who have won two straight home games, did not
reach 10 victories last season until January 31st, in their
42nd
game. Rookie guard Chauncey Billups has scored in
double
figures in four straight games but Antoine Walker continues
to
do the most damage on offense. He has led the team in scoring,
rebounds and assists in the last two games, averaging 21.5 points,
11.5 boards and 6.5 assists.
The 76ers are bringing up the rear in the Atlantic, standing
8 1/2 games in back of Miami after Saturday's 95-83 loss
at New York. Philadelphia has not won away from home
since a 99-98 triumph at Dallas, losing five straight
road games since then. The Sixers have lost three of their
last four games and six of eight overall.
Allen Iverson continues to put up big scoring numbers but
his assist totals have greatly declined. He has led the Sixers
in assists just once in the last seven games, averaging just
4.7
during that stretch. Iverson has averaged 24.4 points in the
last five contests.
Iverson was held to just 11 points on 5-of-16 shooting in a
107-101 home loss to the Celtics on November 15th. The
Sixers are 26-6 in their last 32 games in Boston, including
wins in both games at the FleetCenter last season.
