With players coming into the league at different ages now rather than the
traditional 21,22 that used to be, I consider comparing rookie stats
without regard to age not a valid comparison.  

I do think that comparing players at the same age is always a valid
comparison.

This all started from a comparison being made between Antoine and Larry
Bird.  I maintain that the comparison cannot really be made until two years
from now when Antoine will be the same age as Larry was when he finally
made it to the NBA.
