dissing Pete

No comments on my ethics post from last night? Well, it was late. Here's another one from Alt.music.who in answer to comments on the Independent article:

<snip dissing of Pete>

Thanks, Pete . . .
Are we missing the point here?

After Pete had a look at this, he published a pretty good analysis of
how it could be stopped. Instead of blaming Pete for the whole child
porn industry, have a look at what he said. You'll never stop it by
chasing users, or trying to shut down the pornographers in Asia and
Russia. However, the trade is supported by credit card companies and
ISPs that host the sites. Stop this and you've put a big dent in the
trade. After Pete published his call to end this support, VISA made a
statement that it would no longer support sales, but other credit card
companies still do this.

The big thing that should jump out of this article is that this was a
distributor, a middle man that facilitated sales in the same way
credit card companies and ISPs do. It's a BUSINESS and that it
generates HUGE revenues, which means financial interests will turn a
blind eye to what's going on and insist they're innocent. Cut out the
other middle men. Write to your government representative and demand
that credit card companies and ISPs be held responsible for supporting
these sites.
