Re: Nuff Said; Pete's intent

video. However, what many people fail to realize is
how - by visiting their websites - we directly and
effectively subsidize pornographers.

Ken:

It is true that by giving money to the site, Pete enabled them to continue. I'm not denying that. And I'm certain that was NOT his intent. People do this sort of thing every day, because shopping at Wal-Mart enables sweat shops in South America and gasoline purchases funds Arab terrorism...and it really does, you know. You could make a persuasive argument that by buying guns you're making possible the inevitability of weapons falling into the hands of criminals, by supporting their manufacture. Those who smoke cigarettes enable the tobacco companies to sell to children and essentially kill them. Cars are the number one killer in the US...should they be outlawed? Alcohol (number 2 killer)?

This runs from the obvious and direct to the extreme, granted. In a perfect world, none of us would do anything that helps some evil person somewhere else...at least after we've been made aware of it.

>This is true
whether we do so unwittingly or deliberately, out of
curiosity or a vigilante spirit.

This is where you and I differ, I guess. I think Pete's intent is the most important factor here. If he went to the site hoping, or planning to fund their continuance, I'd cut him off without a second thought. But knowing the man through his music and writings, not to mention the public record, I cannot bring myself to believe it. So I don't hold him as responsible as some here do. Yes, he made a mistake. We all do. Being in the position he is in, and with his intellect, he has the potential to make really big mistakes...and he did.

>one point, understood this. Its not terribly
difficult to grasp. Unless one is in denial.

It's impossible for us to know where his mind was that day. I choose for the reasons stated above to let him off the hook. Clearly some here can't do that.

>Finally, the concept that entering a site once and paying $20 is the equivalent of funding the next child rape is absurd reasoning.

Vinman:

That's exactly how I see it.

>I believe this too.
But, I'm concerned that most others will not.

Kevin:

I'm worried about YOU. The Who fan. I'm glad you believe Pete, and fuck what other people think. They always hated The Who anyway, jealousy I'd say.

>But, the point of all of this nonsense is in the intent, isn't it?

You, sir, are a genius.

>I personally have more faith in Pete's street smarts and over-all
intelligence than that.

We all have our disconnects.

> No point really re-hashing this over and over.

"Heh heh, he said Hash."

>Keith Alec Price (aka KAP), son of Stuart Price (Stu in MD) and Lori Leroy, was born yesterday at 2pm.

Please forward my congrats and tell Lori to play a Zep song for him from Cabala (ducking).

>Contrary to popular opinion, I am stone sober and totally straight.

Lew:

Well, DAMN BOY stop wasting your time and start wasting your mind!

>Damn Mark!
Where you been?

Kevin:

You know. Working on a project that could make me financially independent, with a little luck. Cross your fingers for me.

>You really gonna make me go through it all, all over again?

No, we're on the same side.

>Ah, no point going into it again. Ken in MD has a good write up.

And I acknowledge that.

>This reminds me of a debate I once had with some friends who felt strongly that all drugs should be legalized

That's a ridiculous POV, IMHO. Some drugs are dangerous, some are only dangerous because they're illegal. Someone needs to take a reality check.
