Re: Karma and sin
That, and the fact that he's not helping his cause with these combative and
run-and-hide diary entries.
Think about this Who nuts......
If half (no actual research done, but there is a point here) of the regular
people on this list feel the way I'm feeling, and we (those who take the
time to participate on a Who list) are arguably the hard-core of the
hard-core Who fans, then how do you suppose the everyday Who fan is going
to react? I'd venture to guess, not too well.
It's hard to gage the fan response. There may be a big contingent of angry
fans who are keeping their opinions to themselves, but that means I don't
see them. Mostly the lists are chatting along as if nothing ever happened.
Pete's diary entries are mostly greeted with cries of "Go, Pete! Write
music!" Now and then we get a "Spare me," comment, but I think most fans
are in denial. They want to pretend the whole thing didn't happen, and want
to believe the "Pete Townshend Cleared!" headline has made things right for
Pete.
It may have in the US, though we'll have to wait and see. Regardless of the
fact that there are some of you guys who are angry with Pete, I think it's
accepted that he's innocent in the US and tours and performances are likely
to go on as usual. However, I'm not so sure about the UK. I've been
surfing the usenet groups, and mention of Pete's name always provokes a
negative comment or two. Plus, there's some scary stuff out there on the
Internet. We don't know what all Pete is dealing with, so we should accept
that his diary entries may have some purpose.
