tag lines and support

of filth in his basement, but he would ave "supported"
him by accepting him for who he is and hoping that he
got treatment. How else could you possibly interpret
that sentence?<<

That is the correct interpretation and the one I still
stand by. Supporting him unconditionally doesn't mean
I can't be critical of him for adopting a
dog-in-the-manger/"it's all their fault" attitude. It
doesn't mean I love his music any less, or wish him
ill in any way. But it also doesn't mean I'm going to
pretend everything's OK when his only public
statements since he was able to speak openly display
the arrogance and self-pity that are the hallmarks of
an addict in denial.

>>all it took was a somewhat less than contrite
statement, after Pete's version of events was
confirmed by the police, for that line to change to "I
have always used pornography.- Pete Townshend."<<

Pete has battled many addictions and apparently
remains sober when it comes to alcohol and drugs. He
himself has written about the close relationship
between those addictions and one to sex and/or
pornography. My tag line changed to a reminder of when
he was able to be more honest with himself and others.
I don't want or need an apology from him - just some
sign that he was looking at himself honestly and
acknowledging how his own lifelong demons helped land
him in this spot.
