Re: love ain't for keepin'

Jo:

We are, after all, about as far from each other as you can get and still be in this country.

> I am a city girl.

Hey, believe me...I'm a city boy (the term "boy" being used loosely at my age). I've hitchiked through the country, but I like having showers and electricity and stereos and satellite dishes and all that stuff. I was recently recruited by a commune...why, I don't know...but I had to laugh. A cabin without AC? No thanks! Nice place, though.

>Gardens are planted in the Spring here, after the last
frost. We don't have crops of wheat or corn, more like strawberries, citrus
trees, avocado's.

I've only grown one kind of plant (eh-hem), and that indoors at any given time of the year, so I don't know much about gardens. We don't grow wheat here, but corn certainly and peaches and mostly tobacco. Cotton. Strawberries, yeah. No citrus trees...that's Florida. Suddenly this seems like a Social Studies class...

> Most houses come with gas fireplaces that give off no heat at all!

Most fireplaces here have no dampers. Mine does, because I made damned sure it did. But I've had most of a cord of wood after three years, that's how much I can use the fireplace.

>fireplace that had some kind of fan that blew flame colored streamers in an
attempt to look like a real fireplace. We laugh at that to this
day...anyway.....

Yeah, ha, we got one of those a few Xmas' ago because my family, and my wife's, had one for the holiday. Just for a laugh, you know? Red bulb and all that. It's usually too warm for a fire in December.

> The rains, if we get any, usually come around the months of Feb.-May.

We get a LOT of rain.

>My point is..........it would make sense that we would think of different
times of the year, because we come from different climates. I thought that was
interesting.

I'm not sure our climates are that different. Maybe yours is drier. How southern in California are you? I'm in South Carolina...Myrtle Beach, where the Baba Center is...and it barely gets cold here even in January. Like 40 degrees is REALLY cold. This time of year, it's deadly hot. Low hundreds, usually (not so far this year, though). Wrath Of God thunderstorms every afternoon.

Besides, it's the climate in England that would steer the meaning of the song. I've never been, so I'm only speculating.
