designs for next fall, opens today. (It is so named
because the automobile company has invested big money
to be a major sponsor. Think Buick Open.)...

...Meanwhile, Cynthia Steffe chose another approach,
perhaps to touch the customer's need for distraction
and fantasy. She is offering bright edgy colors with a
rock 'n' roll sensibility. "An homage to street
style," she writes in her press notes.

Steffe was inspired by the mod scene and the new wave
fused together, she says, and drew from the British
band the Jam and the Who film "Quadrophenia."...
