When I was first learning the drums I used to play with headphones on 
but I found it hard to hear the music over my drumming.  After several
attempts I just gave up.  Jon, you must really be cranking the music in
your headphones!  Careful,....that's the fast track to hearing damage.
(Boy, don't I sound like an old geezer saying that?)
