Re: The Who Mailing List Digest V10 #113
I know that the main PW debate has been about its "artistic integrity", but
to me, it is the best song on the entire album (in very close running with
IF, GTTM, and AJ), and my musical life would be a lot poorer without it. I
don't care why Pete wrote it; it is fantastically quirky and original (no one
can strum chords like the master), and helps make the album all the more
distinctive. It happened to be written at a time when Pete was bursting with
hyper-creativity (1969 to 1973: Tommy, Who's Next/Lifehouse, and
Quadrophenia), and the Nik Cohn angle was merely the catalyst for this
particular creative expression.
In other matters, can someone please create some sort of new mailing list
called "People Who Like the Music of the Who Argue Politics", so we can get
all this crap off of this list! I can't stand having to wade through it night
after night to get to the strategically hidden Who comments and news!
Thanks,
Chris in Cleveland
