Soundboard recordings usually have very limited crowd noise.  No microphones are used for
"ambient" crowd sounds.

Well, let me clarify a bit.  The tarnish *I* was speaking of doesn't concern the Who's current
ability to pull off a live show.  There's no tarnish in that regard.  The tarnish I see is on the
general
public's, or more precisely, the general rock fan's, overall image of The Who.
