Lots of good points there, Jim.  I, too, agree that if Nirvana never
existed the 80's metal bands would have died out anyway.  Nirvana
didn't wipe them away; they were just the band that filled the void
after most of the 80's metal fans started growing up & moving on.

And don't forget the underrated all-girl band Babes In Toyland who
came out of Minneapolis in the late 80's/early 90's.  Courtney Love
practically stole the persona of their lead singer/guitarist Kat.
