Entwistle bass sold at auction



A 1962 Fender bass owned by John sold yesterday at
Christie's for #3,290. Here's the catalog descriptions
from Christie's:

John Entwistle 
A 1962 Fender Precision Bass guitar, Serial No. 80965,
in black finish, double cutaway body, maple neck,
twenty fret rosewood fingerboard with dot inlays, two
pickups, two rotary controls, metal bridge/tailblock
and imitation tortoiseshell pickguard; and a black
rectangular hardshell case with orange plush lining;
accompanied by an autograph letter from John Entwistle
on The Bass Centre, 131, Wapping High St. London...
headed stationery stating ...This is to certify that
the 62 Fender Precision refinished white recently
purchased by you was part of my collection S/N 8095,
Yours faitfully, signed 1p. (3)
Lot Notes At some point during his ownership of this
guitar, John Entwistle had it refinished in white. The
vendor subsequently had it professionally refinished
in black whilst touring with The Pretty Things in the
1990s.  

The front cover of an album sleeve Who Are You, 1978,
signed recently in blue felt pen by Pete Townshend and
Roger Daltrey and in silver felt pen by John
Entwistle; and a black and white publicity photograph
of The Who circa 1969 (printed later) similarly signed
Sold for #117.50.

A Fender Squier Telecaster electric guitar, Serial No.
CY01099683, in electric blue finish, the body
airbrushed with a Union Jack flag design, single
cutaway body, maple neck, twenty-one fret maple
fingerboard with dot inlays, two pickups, two rotary
controls, selector switch, tremolo bridge/tailblock
and white pickguard, signed in blue felt pen on the
pickguard by Pete Townshend, Roger Daltrey and John
Entwistle; and a soft black carrying case
Sold for #1,645.
