Re: The Who Mailing List Digest V9 #316

I didn't know Pete Townshend is a classified Psychiatrist.

Fox:

If he was, he wouldn't have said anything to anyone else (patient confidentiality) and he would have billed Courtney Love $150 (or whatever they charge).

Yep, it's called STORY OF THE WHO. It has an exploding pinball machine on the cover.

Scott:

Ah, it all starts to come back...a little coffee can do amazing things...yes, the cover I'm thinking of is on A Portrait Of The Who, which *I* own (must be in storage at my store) and seems to be a cut rate Direct Hits sort of thing, back in the old Jem catalog days. I got it because it had three songs unavailable in the US: the original I'm A Boy, Dogs, and another I can't recall. Might be Under My Thumb. An "in concert" cover.

> No way of comparing Boston to the Who! Boston WAS popular?

Helen:

Boston WAS more popular than The Who. I hate to tell you, but The Who are not popular now...except a few places like here on this list. Most people wouldn't know them unless you mentioned You Better You Bet, and even then they'd sneer...

WHEN? How come?

When, the late 70's...about the time Kiss was, and that says a lot about the late 70's Rock consciousness if you ask me. *I* was listening to the Sex Pistols, Clash, Jam, stuff like that about then. "How come" I can't answer. Because there was nothing else, I guess.

What for??? Really puzzles me.

There again, I can't really tell you. The first and second albums were ALL RIGHT, not great by any means as it was all sound and no substance. Very clean and slick and tasteful. Ear candy. But then again, that's what people seem to want. Need I mention Britney Spears? And she's only EYE candy! Maybe it's different in Russia...hopefully, and if so maybe I should move to Russia as so many people used to suggest back in the old days when I was a Marxist...
