No- i don't think brokers should be outlawed because I can't get a great seat
for cheap. The promoters, band, and whoever else is responsible for putting
on the show should charge whatever they think the market is, and we can then
all choose to pay or not. HOWEVER, those who want to see the show should be
able to compete- first come, first serve- for concert seats without having
brokers drive many fans who otherwise could afford good seats from being able
to get them. A broker contracting with people before tickets go on sale to
get them great seats for a fee is one thing, but when brokers buy up as many
good seats as they can just to turn around and jack up the price it does
nothing but hurt consumers. In essence, it IS driving many fans from the
front sections because many can't afford the ridiculous mark-ups. Can you
name another product that is sold retail to consumers AND others who try to
re-sell the products for more than they paid? I can't think of one- which is
why this industry's consumers need protection from scalping.
