Man, it takes a lot to shock me, but to openly state that you would have
preferred it be Rabbit or Zack who died is REALLY pushing the envelope.
After all, these are people with friends and families who love and depend on
them.  I understand your feelings for John, but this comment is a
bit morbid.

Sorry, but clearly that is not what I had meant.  I was expressing what my
thought process was when I had received the phone call from my girlfriend
advising me about what happened.  If I was preferring anything at that
moment, it was that my girlfriend misunderstood what she had heard on the
news.
