Re: Are the Who important?

> Do any listers here have any comments? What defines important?

Are The Who important to me? Yes. Extremely.
Are The Who important to today's Rock? Not really.
Are The Who important in the history of Rock? Yes.
Are The Who important in the history of music? Not really.
Are The Who important to our Mother Universe? Not at all.

But The Who do serve a purpose to some, even today. And
I'm talking about serving a purpose to the non-Who-freaks.
I guess it was keets who said The Who were important when
they played the Concert For New York. I'd have to agree.

I mean, my first reaction to the question "Are The Who import-
ant today?" would be "No, they aren't." But they *were* im-
portant at that CFNY, weren't they?

I always speak of The Who's ability to channel feelings - frustra-
tion, anger, confusion, exultation, etc. And I think they did that
for a lot of people at that concert. And on a way different level
than the other acts. That was evident.

Plus, if a goofball like me can get hooked on The Who, there
must be new converts being "born" every month. And The Who
will become important to *them.* Like DEVO said - we must
repeat.
