Hendrix guitars

It is pretty well known that Jimi went through guitars
like most folks go through kleenex, and he generally
played whatever Strats that Fender were sending around
at the time. In the very late 60's, Fender began to
offer the option of maple necks/fretboards again (50's
Strats were made this way) and Jimi found that he
really like the sound and feel of a maple neck. From
the very first models that Fender sent around, Jimi
switched over to the maple almost exclusively. The
Olympic White Strat that is associated with Woodstock
and the Rainbow Bridge film hung around a little
longer than some of his other guitars, and is
generally considered to be the guitar that appears
over most of the "New Rising Sun" sessions too.

There were times when the band would arrive at a venue
and local guitar dealers would send over all sorts of
guitars for Jimi to try out - Jimi would play anything
that was handy. The Band Of Gypsies shows in NYC had
Jimi plonking on a Gibson Les Paul occassionally.
