DAVID BOWIE will kick off the huge rock 'n' roll party being held at Madison
Square Garden this weekend with a performance of his classic hit Heroes at
the Concert for New York.

Bowie will set the mood for the tribute and fundraiser on Saturday night for
all the firefighters, police and rescue workers of the World Trade Center
disaster.

Bowie's performance will begin an amazing line-up of musicians that include
Mick Jagger, Eric Clapton, The Who, Billy Joel, Bon Jovi, Bono, James
Taylor, John Mellencamp, Janet Jackson, the Backstreet Boys and Destiny's
Child.

The double-disc CD, distributed by Columbia Records, is expected to raise
more than $200m according to insiders.

There is a rumour that Elton John will debut a tune for New York, set to
capture the moment similar to his version of Candle in the Wind that he
performed at Princess Diana's funeral.

As if the music wasn't enough, Michael J. Fox, Adam Sandler, Mike Myers,
Jimmy Fallon, Reese Witherspoon, Ryan Phillippe, Jim Carrey, Meg Ryan, Susan
Sarandon, David Spade, Julia Stiles, Denis Leary and John Cusack will also
be on stage.

Jay-Z Added To Concert For New York
Jerry Seinfeld, Kevin Smith, Martin Scorsese to screen short films at
benefit; extra tickets go on sale.

Jay-Z has been added to Saturday's Concert for New York, a benefit for
terrorism victims that will also include such major names as Destiny's
Child, Paul McCartney, U2's Bono and the Edge, Elton John and the Backstreet
Boys.

Also new to the show is a series of original short films celebrating the
spirit of New York and directed by such actors and filmmakers as Woody
Allen, Edward Burns, Spike Lee, Martin Scorsese, Jerry Seinfeld and Kevin
Smith, organizers said Wednesday (October 17).

Due to production reconfigurations, a limited number of additional tickets
went on sale Wednesday, according to organizers. Prices start at $250.

The films will be included in VH1's live broadcast of the concert from
Madison Square Garden.

Other acts on the bill include Mick Jagger, Macy Gray, David Bowie, Eric
Clapton, the Who, Billy Joel and Marc Anthony (see "U2's Bono And Edge, DC,
Elton, Bowie Join NY Benefit").

Organizers have not said what the artists will be performing.

The event will raise money for those affected by the September 11 terrorist
attacks. VH1 is one of the show's sponsors.
