...When art imitates this particular life, the result sounds like Noelle - a
15-year-old Waltham singer whose debut CD, ''This Summer,'' is an infectious
rush of speedy, sugar-soaked rock 'n' roll...
...Something of a loner, Noelle says she has few friends, preferring to
spend most of her time with the guys in the band. The 11th-grader's favorite
subjects at Waltham High are, in no particular order, art and lunch. She
hates dresses, loves Pete Townshend, Weezer, and Black Sabbath, and quit
formal music lessons because ''my teacher wasn't any good.'' You can hear
Noelle's worldview in her singing: in the plain, almost apathetic tones, in
the unforced clarity that captures adolescence in all its sweetly ragged,
eye-rolling urgency...
