RE: Predicting the future

Hi Derick!
The "we" I referred to was mankind in general. As a child I was under the
impression that man (we) was smart enough (oh, how naive a child's mind is)
to recognize our problems, and then actually do something about them. Gee,
like we would actually do something to save our world.
Now, I find myself increasingly disappointed and disillusioned with the fact
that we seem to be recognizing our problems, but sticking our heads in the
sand. Really, our country is pretty disgusting in so many ways. I see
European countries so far ahead of the conservation curve (among others)
then we ignorant and consumption crazy Americans will ever be. We are just
plain selfish and think backwards, and it's starting to really make me
embarrassed to be an American at times. Another example is with placing
drug users/addicts in jail. This subject alone is a time bomb waiting to
explode.

>Who was 'rebelling' and against what?

I think you may be referring to my theory that the youth of the late 80's
and early 90's were rebelling against the bad economy at the end of the
Reagan years and during Bush Sr. years. Although some may not have seen it,
in most places things were pretty damn shitty. Grunge, to me was the bull
horn expressing the nations' (if you consider how popular Grunge became)
frustrations with low pay, no pay, no job, underemployment, homelessness,
etc..

>Why ? the money is not spent equitably, the powers that be fix, repair and
landscape wher they <want to.

Careful, don't get me started. I'm somewhat of a Socialist. I am a firm
believer in Social Capitalism, or "Capitalism with a conscience". What the
strict Capitalists MUST learn to understand is that they too will be dragged
down if we don't take care of those "have nots".
Healthcare is a prime example.

>So there will probably be another round of riots one day.

It's just a matter of time.
If you look at Europe, literally today, you will see the beginning. They
are pissed at Bush, and pissed at the US in general. And for good cause.
I find the youth of today to be even more "left" than me, and that's pretty
far fucking left. It's just a matter of time. Kids are pissed that we
still have not addressed adequately the problems of the 60's. What
hypocrites we are. What failures.
Many in power are still operating as if we are not a Global society. As the
new "Internet Generation" comes into their own, they will bring a new
perspective that will force us to all think globally. We are all connected
now! We can't afford to continue to think like we're the only ones on
Earth.

So, when Pete writes (paraphrasing), "I want to know you'll be alright (or
is it all right;) with or without me", is he talking just emotionally, or
is he also looking at grander social issues??? Knowing Pete's writing, I'd
say we need to look deeper at what he was saying last summer.
