Pete's lonely public dilemma

I believe that one of Pete's problems with writing songs for a new Who album
is the fact that he was so brilliant as a young man. He has mentioned it
repeatedly, as though it haunts him. -" I could really dream back then"_ ,
The release of lifehouse in 1999= material from "back then" that was an
attenpt to keep the promise that he made in the notes of the remastered Who's
next. I still don't understand it. But I have a glimpse!

Another thought that that they all (TED) have to deal with is the fact that
Keith Moon is gone. No matter what anyone says, he was critical to thier
success. The instant that he joined the band, they became super. Yes he was a
loon, but before I knew all the stories, i was attracted by their sound- a
sound that I never tire of. Man, if you doubt this, just get out your latest
LAL and listen to any track, especially track 10- Amazing journey- and be
sure to turn it way up (The Who needs to be *felt*) The way that Pete and
Keith sound together is irreplacable. NO one could do what they could do.
John is blent in ther perfectly as well, but P and K are just dynamic. Kenny
is good, Simon is perfect, but Keith made a sound that I cannot forget, sort
of like liquid thunder that is sweet to the ears when mixed with Pete's time-
keeping, crashing, competing, interwoven powerchords driving home whatever
Pete had to say when he could still dream. I just want to know if Zak can do
it.

FD and IH do not have Keith. This to me is what is wrong with them. He is not
needed on eminence front, but he is desparately needed on The title track of
It's Hard (I love the guitar solo on that one). On It's your turn kenny
tries to be keith (probably at Roger's request) but the powerful drive is not
there to go along with all the fills. No creative, unique surprizes such as
on I can see for miles or Go to the mirror on these two albums. As for Who
are You, even though Keith was out of shape, the feeling is still there and
he was mixed down a bit more. My nephew saw him lunging while playing this
song on TKAA and said Look at that guy's face!

What kind of music will fit this era? I just hope that they do what they do
and not think too much. They are great. I love what Roger told Pete about
just writing songs and not Who songs. Pete's heart was not into the Who in
the 80's anyway. Roger seems to have alot of wisdom. Maybe Pete could pretend
to join ROGER'S band again and get that creativity back.
