WPB - Tour opener

The Who did more than just open the third leg of their tour last night,
they made a statement,to their fans,to their detractors,the music
business, the world. They showed beyond any doubt, that they are still
a mighty force to be reckoned with,a band that can go up there and play,
as hard as anyone can,can rock, like no other and most of all be themselves .
They exploded on stage with the traditional 'I Can't explain' to a
massive welcome by the fans. From the start,Pete Townshend began to play
his guitar like a man mesmerised by a mission he has to accomplish.
He attacked the audience with his lightning windmills, chops and thrashes
and played with an energy level and enthusiasim that I have not seen for
quite some time. His soloing too was virtual perfection and seemed to
do more of this this night than any other that I've seen on this tour
so far. An incredible ,electric performance.
The band was in an incredible good mood and this reflected in their
overall performance, which was to say, nothing short of amazing, brilliant.
Zak Starkey playing with a power and passion and force which generates
some of the energy that the band is playing with.
Roger Daltrey's singing was incredible, his voice was in great shape
and he inspired the audience to sing along with him ,holding out his
mike in their direction. Roger was absolutely fantastic, his singing
was impeccable, hiiting high and low notes and with passion and simplicity
.Roger and Pete were like they were still playing back in
the 70's and during WGFA moreso, they rocked and blew the house down!
Of course The Ox was his usual self ,thundering along to help provide
that unique Who sound which was loud and evidently clear, that no one
can touch these boys live. (as we all know)
The concert seemed to be well attended, though outside, you could have
bought tickets well below face value and some were even giving away
extra lawn tickets. Unfortunately, this venue is not very fan freindly
as some of us have discovered.
This was indeed a very incredible performance, no major surprises, but
lot's of stuff from Who's Next, getting in Tune, Baba O' Riley, WGFA,
and as Pete said ,Naked Eye which should have been on there and Bargain,
and Behind blue eyes, also a great version of Relay.
After WGFA they came back for a short encore with The Kids are alright
new version followed by an incredible My generation.
(no small world this time) Pete commented about the fact that they had
to be off stage by 11pm which sucked !
The pre show meeting at Applebee's went quite well, about 14 or so people
showd up Kathy and Kim ?,Mike Starke and Rob,jeff,Chris,Elon from
Brazil,Carey and Scott and several others.Plus a call from magik who
could not make it down, and they actually played Who music !
An unforgettable experience!
regards,
Derick.
