A little Napster in the morning; Read my lips: No new Who!

>Page, and not going to have third row seats to the Who. I'm sorry, but any

their

Lorin:

To be fair about it, the members of the band may not even know they were
going to play and that they aren't, now. This is usually a decision of the
promotor and management, and the band aren't bothered with such trivalities.
I AM sorry you're going to miss them. But try to see them elsewhere. Never
give up.

>I just thought I'd vent to some people who care as much about this band as
I
>am trying not to.

At least it seems you're not succeeding.

>From the complaints, the labels then send a bill for promotion and
>distribution that can run higher than the advance

Keets:

Not possible in this case. Not with a band of this calibur. They don't need
much of either.

> --something in the fine
>print that most new groups aren't ready for.

They should get a lawyer. Ignorance is no excuse. And, after all, they can't
sell if they're not known.

> The advance is against
>royalties which will be a percentage of profit.

Of course, just as an author gets in a book deal. Nothing wrong with that.

> If they don't make the
>expected profit, the artist will owe some of it back.

The same applies with books. It's a standard deal, and that's hardly the
label's fault. They advance the money, and the artist is expected to perform
up to that standard. No one forces the band to take the money, and usually
it's their lawyer/representatives who demand this amount of money. Surely
you don't expect the label just to GIVE the money to them and lose? I am no
big fan of labels, but I also don't expect them to just give away their
business. It reminds me of customers who want to trade used CDs one for one
(so they take the greatest stuff for some OK or lessor CD), or worse they
get two for the one they bring in...or want me to pay $10 for a CD and then
sell them for $7. It just doesn't add up any of those ways. Sure it would be
nice for THEM, but I might want to bring some money home from time to time.

> [O'Neal, Kevin W.] Who, me?? Say what??

Kevin:

I HATE like HELL to break the news to you, but you're not the only Kevin in
town.

>That is a hot little number, isn't it? A couple or three people have
>mentioned they wouldn't mind if the next Who album went like that.
Terrific
>sound.

Keets:

What we don't want is the recycled sound, which is surely to be considered
an inferior effort. You know, like any Stones album after 1973...
Speaking of new Who music, where is it on this tour? As promised? The tour
is well underway and no new songs have cropped up, or at least none have
been reported that I know of.
