Re: Irvine review from the Orange County Weekly

I think Brian's analysis is right on the mark regarding the two types of
critics' reviews we've been reading.

The fella writing the Irvine review was so harsh.....I think he should
be forced to spend 40 days on a deserted island with Susan from
Survivor....

It appeared he actually was a fan of the WHO at one time. Sounds like
he has some issues with his own aging process. The entertainment world
is so youth-oriented, especially in the realm of rock & roll. My dad
thinks there is something seriously wrong with me because I continue to
love the music of my youth. "I was never like that," he said. My mom
questioned him - "Like what?" "You liked Bluegrass when you were young
- you still like it now. Your mom liked Big Band music all her life."
But my dad doesn't get it....rock & roll is about defiance, about
skipping school, smokin' in the boy's room....why would a 44 yr. old
woman enjoy listening to it? And not just the old stuff....a lot of the
stuff my kids listen to, also (my daughter is determined to make me a
Rage Against the Machine fan...)

Keith Richards was asked in an interview if he thought he was getting
too old for this business...he replied, "You wouldn't be asking me this
if I was Black." Does B.B.King get criticized for sitting on a stool
while he plays his guitar? For playing songs he played decades ago?

I once had an opportunity to see Sinatra perform, and turned it down. I
was a big fan, but didn't want to see an old man sing. I now have
videos of his later shows, and regret I didn't go. Maybe only one song
out of ten would be magical...but that one song....

Sorry for the long post - the Irvine review hit a nerve. I think I need
to take the Denver critics out for a drink now.
