Pretty Things

Hey all,

Just to set a few things straight, the Pretty Things' rock opera, "S.F.
Sorrow," was released in 1968. (Pre-dating "Tommy" by a year) "S.F.
Sorrow" is an incredible album, and is definitely worth checking out for
any Who fan. There are some very distinct similarities between it and
"Tommy." I certainly think that Pete was influenced by this album, to
some degree, when he was composing "Tommy."

The interesting point that I want to make though, is that there are also
some major similarities between "S.F. Sorrow" and "The Who Sell Out."
(The latter, of course, pre-dated the former by a year.) If you listen to
"SFS," you'll notice some of the same phrasing, and use of the same voice
efx that the Who used a year before. In much the same way that "Revolver"
influenced "Pet Sounds" which influenced "Sgt. Pepper," it seems that
everything is relative.

Anyway, enough rambling...but I'd highly recommend the Pretty Things to
anyone interested in 60's psychedelia! Quite intriguing! By the way, Dick
Taylor, the Pretty Things guitarist, was the ORIGINAL guitarist for the
Rolling Stones! It's true...

Take care,

Rick
