Demos

OK, I sat down last night and got the lyrics for the demos of That
Motherland Feeling and Rael. I see that the latest list has the Rael
lyrics, but since the demo's are slightly different I'm going to post them
anyway. Any word or phrase I am not sure about is in parenthesis, and the
spoken parts are in quotes. I'm not worried too much about mistakes, since
there are PLENTY of people here who are perfectly willing to correct me...
I've paid special attention to the exact wording, so when I repeat it's
because there is a difference...however slight, sometimes only one word. In
order to give you as accurate a picture as I can.
As for the music, it's all done on a church organ.
I hope this sheds some light on what Townshend had in mind.

That Motherland Feeling

I hear that (sack) is headed for Rael in the morning
He's going to try his luck against the fall
A million Red Chins died from suffocation
I wonder how he's going to help by going

Chorus:
He's got that motherland feeling/That motherland feeling
You know it's in your blood and you can't deny it
That motherland thing/That motherland feeling
And I think that feeling's crawling up on him

He's always been the kind of guy the I respected
His red Rolls never bothered me at all
But what he's doing is like a man trying to stop a river
There comes a time when the (band) just has to fall

CHORUS

Rael

The Red Chins in their millions/Will overspill their borders
And chaos then will reign in our Rael
The country of our fathers/The proud land of our (order)
Like a goldfish being swallowed by a whale

Rael the home of my religion/To me the center of the Earth

The Red Chins in their millions/Will overspill their borders
And chaos then will reign in small Rael
My heritage is threatened/My roots are torn and quartered
And so to do my best I homeward sail (X2)

Captain: "Rael Ho! (X4)"
Hero: "Now Captain, you'll remember my instructions."
Captain: "Aye aye, sir."
Hero: "Return to this same spot on Christmas day. And look towards the
shore for my signal. And then you'll know if in Rael I'll stay."

If a yellow flag is fluttering/Sickly held against the morn
Then you'll know my courage has ended/And you'll send a boat ashore
But if a red flag is flying/Brazen bold against the blue
Then you'll know that I am staying/And my yacht belongs to you

La la la la (same tune)

Hero: "Now Captain, you'll remember your instructions. Return to this spot
on Christmas day. And look toward the shore for my signal. And then you'll
know if in Rael I'll stay.

repeat

He's crazy if he thinks I'm coming back again (X3)
He's crazy...anyway.

Captain: "There he goes. Al-roight, whaddja think? He's crazy."

Hero: "So THIS is Rael."

What I see is all I've seen/In my sweetest sleeping dream
What I feel is what I felt/When by newborn babe I knelt
What I know is all I've known/That has been good while I have grown
Bless the thoughts that made me sail/And the god that made Rael

Hero: "I feel that the ground and the trees and the flowers know me as
their own and welcome me home to the place where I belong."
