Subject: Gender Gaps

All through school there was only one other person
that I found that shared my obsession and that was a girl....

All the guys were into Led Zep, Doors, Grateful Dead but no Who fans. I
never made the percentage connection til much later on. Freshman year
in college while I was blasting the boys in my dorm room a senior came
knocking and the look that came over his face was priceless. The first
thing he said is "YOUR A GIRL!!!". I laughed about it and was amazed to
find out about "The Who's a Guys band" because for 8 years of I had
never found a guy as into them as I was.

Admittedly, I first searched out in The Who April of '82 (aged 14) because of
a guy.
I wanted to find out about the band written in BIG letters on my best
friend's boyfriend’s (now my husband ) jacket. I quickly found out that all of
my favorite songs were by the SAME band including my elementary school teeny
bopper favs "Without your love" & LMLOTD. By the summer of ‘82 I was truly
hooked.
Fortunately, I found my calling in time to see them in the Kingdome 10/82.
Happy, Happy, Joy, Joy. Twenty feet in front of JAE, GA no less. (Yes, Alan I
have been this way since the beginning.)
All the way through high school it was just me & my best friend Trina. Some
friends we had met at various showings of TKAA, Megan & Jessica who were also
best friends. Much later, in '88 at JAE's show I met another pair of best who
buds Deanna & Jean. Jean introduced me to Stacey(Sid) & Sue.

According to my '82-'95 study of Who fans, they were mostly pairs of females
born 1965-68 that found the band in '80-'82. Of the 8 women only 1 was overly
obsessed with Roger’s body.

During this whole time I kept trying to find male Who fiends who
     1) Didn't say "Oh, you're a female Who fan you must be a groupie"
     2) Were even half as into the band as a whole as me & my female Who buds
were.

I only found 1 male that was what I considered to be a true fiend. Bob is a
great guy now in his late 40's.

Most disappointing is that the man at the center of this, MY HUSBAND, not a
true fiend. He just likes them quite a bit. It’s a good thing his other
qualities are outstanding!!!

Of course all previous information was turned on its ear in '96-'97. I met
lots of fans. Both sexes, all ages.

‘82-(1) WHO
‘88-(1)JAE
‘89-(3)WHO
‘94-(1)DST
‘96-(3)JAE
     -(3)PDBT
     -(9)WHO
‘97-(2)WHO
The more shows you see, the more fans you meet. So broaden your horizons, go
to more concerts. :-)

Cheers,
Stefani
