Brian:

That may be, I don't know. My thinking is that the voice was removed,
and a bit imperfectly since it seems that the "Oooh" just before Daltrey
begins is the end of the announcement...it's in EXACTLY the same place,
and his last word is "Who!" There is a technology, often advertised in
the back of Stereo Review, which claims to be able to remove vocals
(I've never tried it, so I don't know how well it works) from a song. It
is my belief that one of these units was used by the original
bootlegger.
What bothers me about this: according to the boxed set booklet, MCA is
unable to get any of the BBC stuff. If so, the studio SB won't be on the
new O&S. And if the BBC ever releases the Who stuff, it's likely that
the announcer will still be there...spoiling it, at least for me.
So I hope you're right!
