The Age Wars(?)

Mm, mm, mm. Some days ago, an interesting conversation was started
about the lack of interest in the Who by the younger generation,
which does have its exceptions, though it is a general rule of
thumb, unfortunately. In the midst of this stimulated discussion,
some of the younger Who fans (like me) wrote in their reflections
about the age thing from the perspective of being one of that
particular age group. Some how, this started turning ugly, with
people getting hurt feelings about being flamed by older Who fans
or being accused of flaming younger Who fans.

Is there really any 35 and over fan on the list who doesn't think
that young people should or can appreciate the Who?

Is there really any under 35 Who fan who thinks he's/she's somehow
venerated by appreciating the Who in his/her youth?

Seriously! I don't believe anyone thinks that way, and if so,
he/she/it is a complete dolt and needs not be payed any mind.

When I went to see JAE at the Cotton Club last year, there were
actually some eighty and ninety year old men and women excitedly
watching the show right up next to the stage at the front of the
pit. They must've started listening to the Who when they were
around sixty or seventy! That's what's cool about the Who...
anyone with an open heart and an open mind can pick the music up.
That's because the music is real, and so are the people who
dig it. Keep the faith, brothers and sisters!
