Re: The Who Mailing List Digest V4 #38

The following is for those expressed interest in my "encounters" with the
Who members:

In the summer of 1992, Roger Daltrey came to Philly (my hometown) to
promote his "Rocks in the Head" album. He visited 93.3 WMMR in Philly.
I rushed down to the station. By the time I got there, he was already in
the station. They tried to sneak him out a back door, but a few of us got
there in time to meet him. I have a picture of him signing my odds&sods
album. Not bad.

In late March of 1993 when I went to see a preview
of Tommy on Broadway. As I arrived at the St. James Theater, I noticed
a few people had Pete Townshend autographs. I feared that I missed my
opportunity, but the fans said Townshend left the theater and was coming
back. My brother and I waited. Thankfully, I noticed Townshend across
the street walking with some other guy back towards the theater. I crossed
the street (so excited I almost got hit by a cab) and asked Pete for his
autograpgh which he kindly obliged. He was very nice and thanked me
for coming. I was awestruck.

In the late summer of 1995, I met John Entwistle in the freakiest of
ways. I was gambling at Caeser's casino in AC.. I had no idea he was
performing in AC with Ringo Starr's All-Star band. As I was entering the
casino, I went up an escalator and noticed this graying man with a spider
necklace around his neck coming down the opposite escalator...It was the
OX!. I ran back down (the wrong way) and asked him for an autograph. He said
sarcasticaly "Your not a lawyer are you." The Ox was cool! He was with Zak
Starkey who was a complete utter asshole!

The coolest encounter, however, came this past summer in June. I was
studying international business in Rome, Italy. I then flew to London to
see the Hyde Park concert. The frist performance of Quad in 96. After
the Who were done, I left (right before Clapton was on).. I wanted to get
backstage, and where there is a will there is a way. I purchased a
backstage pass (bribed) off a young guy leaving backstage, it cost me 20
pounds. I spoke with Paul Townshend for (one of Pete's 2 bros) for 30
minutes. He was a bit bizarre but a really nice guy. The coolest part
that I was the last person to shake Pete's hand before he left Hyde
Park. He left in a Mercedes (passenger side). Life could not have been
better. Incidently, I also met Jimmy Page that day. Ringo Starr was
there and was an asshole just like Zak.

In conclusion, all there survivors are great guys who really appreciate
to support of their fans.

My who quote of the day is as follows:
"I don't know where I'm going
I don't know what I need,
but I'll get to where I'm gonna end up
and thats alright by me"
