New Barnes - Maximum R 'n' B

I just got the 1996 reissue of Richard Barnes' "Maximum R 'n' B."
And to answer your first question, no, there is no flexidisc! Arrrgh!
Foiled again! Otherwise, I couldn't be more pleased with it,
especially as I've never even seen a copy of the 1982 issue. It is
certainly THE must-have book on The Who, flexidisc or no.
In addition to what must have been in the 1982 edition (and I would
really like someone who has both to someday post a comparison between
the two), the book contains a new Ed Hanel Who discography that's
better than the one in the back of the "30 Years" booklet. This one
includes solo albums and singles. The final chapter's info was almost
entirely new to me, detailing the backstage maneuverings behind the
1989 reunion tour. This last chapter could almost be called "The Who
vs. the Whim of Pete Townshend." And you've got to hear what happened
at Pete's 2nd meeting with Princess Di! No wonder he's still working
     with Prince Charles!
I also got a kick out of the strip across the book's front which
reads, "Over 120,000 sold!" Wow, that's like what, two or three
stadiums of Who fans! Why not put "Sold to the select few!"
Anyway, anyhow, don't let the lack of the flexidisc slow you down.
If you don't own this already, get it! If you have the '82 issue,
consider it. You won't be disappointed.
