In the book "Why Are The Who The Who And Who Are They?" (sorry, out 
of print) it reads:
In 1967 Pete Townshend wrote a little song, the lyrics were just "Track 
Records, Track Records...". When manager Kit Lambert heard this, he 
immediately said to Chris Stamp: "Hey, I think we should name our new record 
label after Pete's song!"
So it did happen...
