MFSL (not quite) Original Master Recordings

They're pretty good about writing back, ,so please post the letter when you
get it.  For those who aren't familiar with MFSL, they claim to use only
the original analog master tapes (from which they prepare a new digital
master).  In the case of a few artists (Steely Dan, Elton John) this claim
has been questioned, and now they appear to have been off the mark with the
Who CDs.   I don't know if their standards are slipping, but a few years
ago I was told by MFSL that they never made a Who's Next gold disc because
they couldn't find the original master.  Now MCA has gone ahead and made
one, even though their source tape (despite the packaging's claim) was not
the original master but a "newly discovered" safety copy.
