The Who Digest Vol 3 Num 18

Personally, I always prefered the movie TOMMY over QUADROPHENIA. Some
really great bits in TOMMY - Moon as Uncle Ernie is classic Moon, IMO. The
movie's I'M FREE knocks the socks off the original, and probably is my
favorite Who song to play along with on my guitar.

Entwistle wasn't the only one who got lost in the mixes. Moon got buried
quite a few times too. About a year ago, WF pointed out to me the
'alternate' version of JEKYLL AND HYDE on BACK 2 BACK. Whereas I originally
heard the song in mono on the back of one of the Who's singles in the late
60's, and then 'graduated' to the mix on MAGIC BUS-THE WHO ON TOUR, the mix
on BACK 2 BACK is a whole 'nother ball game. Moony is a lot more out front
here.

I do remember the mono single mix of MAGIC BUS being quite a bit better than
the stereo on MB-TWOT, which is different again from the version on MEATY
BEATY BIG AND BOUNCY.
