I've been away from college this week, so I've just spent an hour reading
the week's digests. There has been much talk of UK Who issues, so I
thought that I might attempt to add some news:
1. The West End production of Tommy started previews last Wednesday
(20th). I missed out on buying reduced preview tickets with
a leaflet from the convention, and I'm a bit miffed. I've seen
a number of Tommy related articles in the press recently.
Last month's issue of MOJO had a big picture of Pete and Kim Wilde.
I also picked up a copy of the London Evening Standard on Tuesday
that had a Tommy article and a picture of Pete at the Shaftsbury
Theatre. Not much new ground was covered ( the usual childhood
Tommy influences, Bertrand Russell etc..), although the title was quite
amusing; something like "The generation rebel with the half-rimmed
spectacles." Pete was also on the BBC's Pebble mill show about
2 weeks ago, again with Kim Wilde. This was a pretty good interview,
but I missed taping it. "I Believe my own eyes" was also performed
by Kim and another actor.
2. Pete was present at the "Brit" awards ceremony, televised on ITV
on Tuesday night. He presented OASIS with "The Best British Band"
award, which was no surprise. This was heavily edited (probably due to
the band's cocky, drunken comments), but Pete (chewing gum) looked
suitably "Parental."
3. The BBC Radio One Lifehouse documentary the other day was pretty good.
I taped it twice (Mono / Hissy FM Stereo) if anyone is interested.
The track listing was as mentioned earlier this week, and I can confirm
that Going Mobile was a demo, which I hadn't heard before. Some of
the background music also sounded like some of the Lifehouse
instrumentals that were used on Psychderelict, only not "updated."
I'll save my comments until more people on the list have heard it,
except for the revalation that perhaps the Who Are You sessions began
as an second attempt to revive the Lifehouse story.
4. I've metioned before that the IOW tracks broadcast on BBC Radio 1
last year were Can't Explain and YMB. The "Message of Love"
documentary/film contained YMB and a heavily edited Naked Eye.
That's it for now, I look forward to writing again,

P.S I'll add my thanks to George C. Great article, great pictures !
Are you still going to send your "chronicles of a Who Convention-er" ?
