Sympathy is one of the few Stones songs I really _like_ hearing every
time.

Gotta admit to a weak spot for the period of the Stones where they really
meant it. Say, from Beggars Banquet through Some Girls. I find it hard
to sit still when songs like "Star, Star" "Respectable" or "Monkey Man"
are played. Like the Who and most other bands with more than one album
out, you'll never hear these songs on any radio station, as they aren't
deemed to fit into the profile of the average radio listener.

As an added bonus Carlos Santana joins Clapton on this number and they
often are trading killer guitar licks!

This a surprise...? :)
I've always wanted to hear a good live version of "Eyesight" with the Who
and Clapton, since it's one of the high points of the Tommy movie for me.
Does anyone know of any boots where EC joined the boys for this song
onstage?

Also, I was in attendance at the 1989 show in Tacoma WA when Pete
punctured his right hand with the tremolo bar of his Stratocaster. That
unfortunate event was not staged either.

I was there too. *My* hand was hurting as I watched that...

BandsICouldNeverHearAgainOnClassicRockRadioAndBeHappyForever:
1. Moody Blues (who told these guys they were rock musicians, anyway?
Mantovani Lives!)
2. The Doors (with the single exception of Roadhouse Blues, these guys
couldn't play their way out of a cheap motel. Case in point: the lyrics
to Light My Fire. And they call Morrison a "poet?" Sheesh...)
3. REO Speedwagon (please, drive that station wagon over a cliff...)
4. .38 Special (they need to take a hint from their name...)
5. Journey (I need to mention that Journey had absolutely stunning debut
album that is really hard to find. Before Steve Perry found his way in
front of the band, Journey was an offshoot from Santana's Abraxas band,
and they could create some serious pre-metal heat.)
6. Doobies (Like Journey, they had a fantastic debut album that was
completely different from what they ended up doing, unfortunately. Not
even Jeff Baxter could save them)

o:
1. King Crimson (so far ahead of their time it isn't even funny)
2. XTC (see above note for King Crimson)
3. Traffic (before Steve Winwood forgot what he does best)
4. Cream (something besides Sunshine of Your Love, please...)
5. Neil Young (for being the Godfather of Grunge, he doesn't get much
airplay...)
6. Frank Zappa (genius is always out of fashion... too bad)
7. Ronnie Montrose (he was doing heavy metal in the US before it was
cool. Sammy Hagar was actually relevant when he was singing for Ronnie)
