Re: Pete on tour

Shane, re:

>>> I thought Mac's Unplugged was cool, but I think I was one of probably 50
people that actually bought that CD. It wasn't really marketed the way it
should have been (like EC's was, sedated Layla and all), and seeing how Pete
has in general been marketed (and marketed himself) in the past, the same
thing is likely to happen to him. If it sold well, Pete (and his label) would
likely be motivated to put out a bit more (If PD sold better, I doubt the
Greatest Hits would have taken this long, money being the motivation that it
is.) As much as I'd like to see Pete make a 'comeback' like Clapton did, I
don't really see Unplugged as the way to do it (now Quad in Hyde Park is
another story).

I see your point about marketing, but that is a separate issue from
whether or not Pete should do an "Unplugged". We all agree that the Who
re-issues have gotten virtually NO push from MCA. Personally, I think they
have shot themselves in the foot, and I think it is kinda sad from a fan's
perspective, but then again, at least I got MINE. Who knows just what effect
the lack of sales has on Pete's motivation (or his label's)? After all, given
the lack of "Who promotion", Pete's Greatest Hits is still coming out, as is
John's compilation. All of Roger's lp's are about to be released, with extra
tracks. Pete's tour is happening, and of course, Quad in Hyde Park appears to
be developing into a reality (!)
Again, whether or not it would help Pete "make a comeback", I would
absolutely LOVE to see him on MTV, doing an Unplugged segment -- in fact, I
would hope they would devote a full hour to it, like they did for Nirvana.
Definite VCR activity on that night! With or without Roger or John.
Now, Hyde Park -- as you say, that IS another story!! There was some
comment about it being a PPV special, and I certainly hope so, because I won't
be able to make it to the show!

PS: Was Clapton's Unplugged really a "comeback"? I never thought his career
was ever in a position for him to have to MAKE a comeback....but that is
another issue altogether....
