My sentimenys, exactly, Lord Mike.  And may I add that Lennon chopped some
of the most classic chords (only a select few guitar players DON'T
ballpark 'em).  Plus his rhythmic style was bizzarre and stacatto, which 
I liked.  I'm sure you've seen a million Beatle cover bands hack the songs. 
When dialed in correctly, with correct chords, the stuff takes on a life of
its own... Townshend carried this fine tradition of adding non-barred chords 
to his music, adding power to melody to boot.  'Seems like other bands got the
tricky music down, but got wimpy and lost focus (No, I don't mean the Beatles -
realize that Abbey Road, the last recorded Beatle album, pointed the direction
they would have gone.  Sure looke like there was an awful lot of good mileage
left in the group from that standpoint).  Townshend, for the majority
of his career, kept the ship right on course, thank you very much....
