Matt:

Well, I for one hated the album...not for what it sounded like, because the
performance is good. But for what it stood for: Daltrey giving up his solo
career for the "oldies" band thing. I would have much rather seen a live
album with the band he used on ROCKS IN THE HEAD.
And it's hard for me to believe that Townshend helped him out for this one.
It flies in the face of his stated reason for breaking up The Who. In fact,
this is the very thing he wanted to avoid. The Who becoming The Stones (or
in this case, less than The Stones...since there's no chance of any new
material, however lame). Just the same old songs, over and over and over and
over....did we really _need_ another live version of Pinball Wizard? And
what does Daltrey's final scream in Won't Get Fooled Again mean when
softened by an orchestra? Damned little, I'd say. It's _supposed_ to be
Rock...undiluted, pure and not always easy...
        Cheers ML
