ODDS AND ENDS

GREETINGS TO ALL MY FELLOW WHO FANS ON THE E-MAIL LIST!!!!!

Sorry I haven't been more timely in my efforts to get back to those of you
who've sent me e-mail messages in the past 2 weeks....I moved in with my
fiancee last weekend, and my family is having a huge yard sale this weekend,
so I've been packing boxes, lifting furniture, sifting through my life, as
it were. And since I haven't been answering my e-mail messages actively, I
have a lot to ground to cover today, so let's get to it......

1) GENERATIONS - The address of GENERATIONS, the UK WHO fanzine which i highly
recommend, is: GENERATIONS c/o/ Phil Hopkins
                1 Egbert Road, Meols, Wirral, Merseyside, L47 5AH, U.K.

Issue #14, just now out, costs $5.00. Order now, and tell Phil that Marty sent
ya!!

2) ICE Magazine - A 1-year subscription to ICE (12 issues) costs $30, $40
for overseas subscribers. Highly recommended. The address is:
                ICE
                P.O. Box 3043
                Santa Monica, CA. 90408
ICE accepts Visa/Mastercard for payment of subscriptions.

3) WHO Convention Information Database (George Coelho) - George, thanks for
your message. At this point, I truly don't know yet whether or not I will make
the UK WHO convention. $$$ is too tight to mention (isn't that a Simply Red
song?), but I may just be able to do it. With a wedding day slated for next
year and playing gigs with my band Napoleon BlownApart, I'm pretty booked.
But if there's any reason that I should move mountains, it's the WHO.
Regarding a database for USAers traveling to the Con, I'd be more than happy
to give some insight to someone who will put a database together. Thanks
George, and I hope to see you in September!!!!

4) Hey Jeff Symonds!!! I'm ALWAYS interested in doing a trade. E-mail a list
of your WHO stuff to me, and we'll work out a deal offline. Thanks.

5) Hey Jeremy (PT 1993 Tour boots) - There are at least 2 great PT boot CDs
from his 1993 solo tour:
        A) Music Must Change - Brooklyn Academy of Music, August 7,. 1993
Double CD Pay-per-view performance & Heart to Hang On To
& A Quick One from Beacon Theatre, NYC 7/12/93

        B) Rough Boy - Beacon Theatre, NYC, 7/13/93
Single CD Whole performance minus PsychoDerelict, w/ Michael
Cerveris (the lead from the B'way Tommy show) as guest
                       on Save It For Later

6) New McVicar CD - Yes, I picked up the UK Polydor McVicar CD, and my
feelings are a little mixed. The CD's sound is fine; it's great to hear
"forgotten" songs like "My Time Is Gonna Come", "Bitter And Twisted", "Waiting
For A Friend" and "McVicar" on CD for the first time. The Russ Ballard
instrumentals seem really out of place, though; they sound kind of dated,
IMHO. "Without Your Love" is magnificent, however. I've always preferred the
soundtrack version of this song to the single version, the only difference
being a high bass run during the verses. The real disappointment here lies in
the packaging. First, the CD booklet is flimsy enough, but why did they decide
to reproduce the movie shots from the original LP sleeve? The pics are way too
small, for one. Plus, the movie's been out of the public eye for so long now
that nobody (except maybe the most diehard WHOfan on this list) cares about
how the songs fit in with the context of the movie. And even if they did,
there's no way anyone could discern any connection between the movie and the
soundtrack by straining their eyes to find Roger the criminal in these
microscopic pics. Lastly (and worst of ALL!!), Polydor, in their obvious
haste to get the McVicar and Daltrey CDs out, lists the year of the McVicar
soundtrack as "1973", the same year as the Daltrey CD. This is such an
obvious mistake, and the management at Polydor UK should be flogged
mercilessly for it.

That's all I have time for today. Next week, I'll review the new PT Quad and
Lifehouse Demos bootleg CDs, as well as the Daltrey CD (as I wrote this
message, I called my local import record store, and they have the Daltrey UK
CD for $17.99 waiting for me under the counter!!!!)

Have a great weekend, one and all!!!!!!!
