Regarding the Who's gear before 1977, the best article is still "The Who's 
Sound," in *Guitar Player* November, 1977, p. 20ff. At the time of this 
article, Pete had already switched from the SG Specials (*not* Standards) 
to Les Pauls, but even these were all customized for him to reduce hum and 
unwanted radio signals.
