Gold WN

The Gold Who's Next is, as has already been reported here, a subtle, or
should I say, slight, improvement over the regular MCA version. To my
ears, the best thing about it is that there is far less hiss. Also, the
vocal harmony parts are far, far cleaner, e.g., on BBE. Otherwise, the
mix is sorta muddy, in the same way as the regular disc is. I do think
the disc was prepared with care, sound-wise; if this is your fave Who
album, as it is mine, you'll pay up and be glad. If subtle audio stuff
isn't meaningful to you, hold out for the coming expanded edition. Me, I
couldn't wait even for the slightest improvement! As I've posted before,
I think the MCA gold discs are worthwhile, and for me, it was worth the
wait. But I'm one a those folk who have to have the best-sounding
versions of things available; if you're not that way, you might be
disappointed.
