Roger on "Hey, hey..."
Roger was a guest on the Aussie show "Hey, Hey, It's Saturday" last weekend.
It's a two hour comedy/variety type thing - normally pretty lame.
He was a guest judge on the shows "Red Faces" (no)talent quest after which they
presented him with a nifty looking plaque from Polydor commemorating 30 years of
The Who. He then went on to play "Pinball Wizard" with the show band. Simon was
there on acoustic guitar and they both did a fine job with Roger's vocals
sounding particularly strong. Unfortunately Simon's guitar was drowned out by
the resident keyboardist who seemed intent on reviving the Elton John version of
the song. At the end, the host (Daryl Sommers) asked them to play some more.
Roger looked back towards the band and when it became obvious that they didn't
know any other Who songs they just went into Pinball WIzard again.
Unfortunately it is now pretty obvious that this is being marketed as a Who tour
and I don't think Roger is entirely comfortable with that. When asked by Daryl
whether he had the band back together he seemed uncomfortable and answered
"Well, sort of..."
Regards,
Denis.
