Re: pete jokes: my views

In a way, he's right. Maybe "non-reality" isn't the best term but you
have to admit we, as fans, are a bit biased in this matter.

I'm not saying we're wrong in defending Pete. Or that we have blinders
on. One might argue we're more informed & can make a better judgment.

But there's a reason the phrase "Where there's smoke, there's fire"
exists. It's because *most* of the time, where there *is* smoke,
there *is* fire. Your father's just playing the odds.

Well, Pete's reason/excuse *is* rather weak. Let's be honest. That's
why we're all squirming over this mess. Does it sound rational for
someone fighting child internet porn to *pay* to view it? No, it doesn't,
at first glance (which is where Joe Public usually drops the investiga-
tion).

But we're more informed. We can weigh Pete's actions against our know-
ledge of his personality, his life experiences, & his past behavior.
That works in our favor.

But people like your father have a point to. It's not in our best inter-
est, to say the least, for these allegations against Pete to be true.
Why wouldn't we fight back & cry foul? We've invested a lot of time,
money, & thought into this man. He's given us much. Aspects of his spirit
& personality are manifest in all of us (Jon, are you gettin' all this?!).
We're fighting for our beliefs. Our religion. It's actually very cult-
like. Very human.

But it's also very human to be wary of cult-like behavior. Hence, your
dad's combativeness. We have to understand where people like your dad
are coming from. And ultimately we have to face the fact that it's not
the fault of people like your dad that we're in this situation. It's
Pete's.
