Landslide
Hmmm. I've been doing some research on the Reedy case again, and I'm
thinking that maybe Pete should look back through his credit card records
and make sure he was actually charged to enter the Landslide gateway. I had
pretty much accepted the idea since Pete's statement that there was a
payment that changed hands, but a couple of the articles I've found do make
it sound like the credit card authorization was necessary for a password and
there was no charge until you subscribed to one of the sites inside. BTW,
it was the Postal Inspection Service that ran the site for a while to entrap
users, and not the FBI.

According to evidence presented at trial, the Reedys company, Landslide,
Inc., provided a credit card verification service that acted as an
electronic gateway to the pictures and movies of minors engaging in
sexually explicit conduct at Kusuma, Greenberg and Ingganatas web sites.
Internet customers were required to provide a credit card number as well as
a charge authorization in order to gain access, by a user name and password
provided by Landslide, to the pornographic productions on the web sites.
Landslide charged each customer approximately $29.95 per month per site for
access to these pornographic images of minors and was the only gateway to
these child pornography websites.

More than 70 images of child pornography were found on Thomas Reedy's
computer, but a much more important find was a list of over 350,000 people
who paid from $14.95 to $29.95 a month to subscribe to the different
websites being run by Landslide Productions. Many of the subscribers were
multiple hits in which the same people subscribed to different sites. The
authorities estimated that there were 35,000 different subscribers in the
US alone. It was the largest commercial child pornography enterprise ever
uncovered.
Am I reading this correctly?
