Re: Who's Missing & Two's Missing

And they'll end up owning your songs without paying for them. I was amazed at the bill rider that made a signed artist's songs "work for hire" for the record company. In other words, if the artist is signed, he/she has no rights at all to their own songs. The initial copyright is owned by the record company and not the artist.

I haven't heard more about this in a while. Does anybody know the extent of it, or whether it was eventually blocked, or what?

A local band from around here called DINK (Kent, Ohio) got signed
to Columbia Records about 5 years ago. They made an album & got
to open up for KMFDM (I think) on a European tour.

Since then, the band has broken up & all the members are in debt with
Columbia because the sales of their album didn't meet forecasted levels in the contract. Ouch!

So, those big companies may give you a record deal, but if your shit
doesn't sell they're still gonna get some money out of you. Nice, huh?
