same conclusion, different logic

From: Alan McKendree <amck@thenetdr.com>
"This is more efficient, thus faster than politicians creating emergency
laws and enforcing rationing with police power, which is the alternative.
All THAT does is ensure that the crisis is prolonged while the government or
suppliers dole out what few supplies are available at the pre-disaster
prices at a trickle..." edit "It's a classic example of government making
the situation worse while posing as the solution."

"Capitalism is what it is, you either have it or you don't. (Sadly,
every developed economy has a mixture of socialist and capitalist
features.)"

Alan,
Interesting philosophical stance. It is opposite of my own. I think
capitalism is only good when it is restrained by a benevolent government.
Unrestrained capitalism is as bad as unrestrained religion, power, wealth,
methane, cyincism, idealism, hate, love, ego, Who obsession, stupidity,
analysis, chat...

I think government can be a good thing, though not always. There is a time
and a place for price controls, anti-trust regulations, etc.

What's really cool here (I think) is that you and I have the same opinion of
the ticket broker situation - outlawing them would be bad, using their
services may make sense to the individual consumer depending on
circumstances.

"Oddly enough, that's what you're paying a broker for, as well. Yet no one
gets torqued off at the outrageous markup, customer gouging, etc. of Abu's
place."

Nothing odd about it. It was a well-crafted, real world analogy :-)

"The whole edifice of government price supervision lost my allegiance
when I realized that it is literally impossible for a business to
comply with the anti-trust laws, if the government chooses to make an
example of it."

Talk about conspiracy theory! Government is the villan, eh? ;-)

I'll bet we could find some more common ground over a few drinks, in a
proper atmosphere. Maybe one of these days :-)
